The Heat Man is My Hero

I have heat!!!!! The Heat/AC man came and did something that took about 2 minutes and now it's a lovely 68 in my house! No more purple hands. Sometimes it's the little things in life that make me smile.

Welcome to Siberia

That's about what it feels like in my house right now. Okay, maybe that's a bit of a stretch because it's 53 in here, but relatively speaking it feels REALLY cold. Especially to me because my hands and feet will turn blue/purple (literally) when the temperature is "normal", much less when it is cold. I've been so cold that when I take a shower the water burns my feet and I can't tell how warm it is because my skin is so cold. Also my shampoo is in this solid-gel like form due to the temp of the bathroom, which is probably the coldest room because it gets little sun light. Needless to say, my heat is not working. I actually found this out a week or so ago, but I was out of town for a week and then I've worked the past couple days so I haven't had a chance to do anything about it. A man is supposed to come and see about fixing it today and I am VERY happy about that. Until it gets fixed though, I have resorted to staying bundled up and drinking lots of coffee. I have also on occasion been using the oven as an alternate heat source.
On a completely different note, I feel the need to express my frustration with the drug companies. Yesterday, I found out the the manufactures of the medication that I have taken for my heart condition for the past 8 years has decided to stop making the strength that I take! So no more of this medication in generic of name brand. Why would someone all the sudden stop making something, when there is no substitute out there. So my cardiologist is trying me on a slightly different dose to see if that will work. I'm kind of freaked out though, cause it took a lot of work in the beginning to get this regulated and I worried that this won't work and my rhythm will get out of wack and I'll end up having runs of V-tach (which is a very bad thing for those you who aren't sure what that means.) Oh well, hopefully everything will be okay. So, there's my ranting for the day.

What's wrong with people these days?

Today I was out doing some errands and I ended up behind this jeep wrangler that had several bumber stickers on it, and since we were at a red light, I took the time to read them. Normally I'm all for freedom of speech and can laugh at most things done in fun even if they aren't my specific opinions, but this one bumper stick was completely out of line. It read "I raised this thing (meaning the jeep obviously), because fat chicks can't climb." How horrible is that?!?!?!?!?! First, it's bad enough that some one would make something like that, but it's even worse that this guy chose to buy it and put it on his car for all to see. I mean there are some "offensive" bumper stickers out there, but most of them are in fun. I think this one crosses the line though. I know I seem rather worked up over a simple line on the back of some guy's car, but in a world where there is so much pressure to look a certain way and have a specific body type things like this only re-enforces that mindset.

I've Got Mail

I finally have a working a mail box!!!!!!!! This may seem like a very small thing and something that most of us don't think much about. However, since moving the beginning of July, I have not had a mail box. For the first month I was pretty understand since it was new construction and they had rushed getting my townhouse done so I could move in when I needed to. By the time August rolled I was starting to get pretty impatient. They finally put the posts up the beginning of September and assured me the boxes would be up in a few days, they just had to let the concrete dry for a couple of days. 2 weeks, still no box. Now, I don't really work concrete on a regular basis, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any kinds out there that take that long to dry! After a few more phone calls to the contractor, I had a mail box, but no numbers and since they want everything to be uniform, I had to wait for someone to put them up. Wednesday the numbers were finally up and today I walked to my own mailbox and got my mail for the first time in months!!!! No more trips to the post office to get the mail or mail a letter! (the post office only about 3 miles away, but still it was a pain to have to drive to get the mail)

Lawsuit Waiting to Happen

I learned this weekend that one of the bars/dance clubs here in Chattanooga, called the DRINK, has a swing that is 10 feet off the ground for patrons to "play on". Now let's think about this, a swing that high off the ground in a place where people consume alcohol, that's just asking for trouble. I mean drunk people can barely walk straight, how in the world are they supposed to hold on to a swing? You may be wondering how I happened along this interesting bit of information. A patient that I took care of this weekend was a victim of the swing. Her and her friend were swinging away when they lost their grip, falling backwards and hitting their heads. Naturally they were both rather intoxicated. My patient was fortunate enough to just end up with a huge gash in her head that required numerous stitches (it was quite cool actually you could lift her scalp up and everything and see the hair follicles on the underside of her scalp). Her friend however ended up with a bleed in her brain and was transfered to the trauma center. I never cease to be amazed by the things that I see in the ER.
